Well, we won. Kind of.
I think in my very firstest blog post I referenced a study by the National Endowment for the Arts that showed there'd been a decline in literary reading among adults every year for the last quarter century. But 2008 was different.
And Horace Engdahl, top member of the award jury for the Nobel Prize in Literature, was all like, "You can't get away from the fact that Europe still is the center of the literary world ... not the United States...The U.S. is too isolated, too insular. They don't translate enough and don't really participate in the big dialogue of literature.
