FILM
MNKINO

Have you ever walked out of a film and thought "I could make a better movie than that."? Well, here's your chance! Every month as part of the new series, MKINO, regular locals have a chance to showcase their homemade short films at the West Bank Social Center. MNKINO picks the theme - a word, object, idea, etc. - but then the artistic freedom lies in your hands. This month's topic is "Transparency" Bring a short film to share and show off your creative mind, or just take a seat and enjoy local film making at its rawest. - Juleana Enright

8 p.m., West Bank Social Center, 501 Cedar Ave. S., Minneapolis, Free

READING
Big Bang Book Club

Join the Big Bang Book Club for a discussion of "13 Things That Don't Make Sense: The Most Baffling Scientific Mysteries of Our Time," by Michael Brooks.  It's a fascinating account of the things science just can't explain... yet. We think we have things figured out, but just try to prove the placebo effect, or the reason some satellites are speeding up as they get farther from the sun. Hmmm. The Big Bang Book Club is a monthly book club for non-scientists that relishes in folding arts and science into a heady brew -- over beer, or beverage of choice. This event is sponsored by Magers & Quinn Booksellers; the Center for Science, Technology, and Public Policy; Secrets of the City; and Grumpy's. Books for this and future Big Bang events will be available for sale.

7 p.m. at Grumpy's, 1111 Washington Ave S, Mpls; FREE
