Korean installation artist Haegue Yang talks shop at the Walker

SPECIAL EVENT
Opening Day Artist Talk: Haegue Yang

Correlating with the opening of Korean artist Haegue Yang's new exhibit Integrity of the Insider, curator Doryun Chong sits down with the artist for an intimate Q&A into her research process and techniques. Yang's first solo museum exhibition in the U.S. features the installation Yearning Melancholy Red, constructed out of non-traditional materials such as customized venetian blinds, lights, infrared heaters, scent emitters and fans -- a sensory experience that explores the real and metaphorical relationships between surroundings and emotions. Inspired by the life and work of revolutionary historical figures including French novelist and filmmaker, Marguerite Duras, underground Korean radical Kim San and American-journalist Nym Wales, this artist's nuanced installations are truly a sight (and sound and smell) to behold. Fresh off the 53rd Venice Biennale opening where she represented the Republic of Korea, Yang's work is not only provocative, but riveting and pertinent to modern pop culture. Come early and stay late to enjoy all the activities Target-Free Thursdays has to offer. -Juleana Enright

7 p.m. Walker Art Center Cinema, 1750 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, Free (complimentary tickets available in the Bazinet Garden Lobby from 6pm)
