ART
Jeff Hettwer Preview
When Kelly Hettwer's husband Jeff tragically passed away last year, the art community mourned a talented artist who left his calling far too soon. But through her pain, Kelly saw an opportunity to help her husband's spirit live on: over the past year she's been rallying for the Walker Art Center to consider placing Jeff's work in their permanent collection -- and it seems to be working. This morning, Walker curators will do a private walk-through of Hettwer's art at the Northrup King Building, which will be followed by an open-to-the-public evening reception from 5-9pm. Celebrate the vibrant life and work of this talented painter with live music, refreshments, a silent auction (in which you can win one of Jeff's prints) and more. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Jeff Hettwer Memorial Scholarship Fund at the U of M.
5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Northrup King Building, 1500 Jackson Street NE, 3rd Floor Gallery, Minneapolis, Free
SPECIAL EVENT
Sen Yai Sen Lek 1 year Anniversary
You've probably read the rave reviews, caught the buzz, or heard through the grapevine about this fledgling Northeast Thai spot, if you're not already a regular. Now just a year old, Sen Yai Sen Lek (Big
Noodle Little Noodle) already has the Twin Cities' most snooty foodies all in a tizzy over their traditional Thai delights. And to mark their 1st b-day, the restaurant is giving back -- today 10% of all sales will go to Edison High School for use toward the Lowry & Central Avenue Gardens. They're also asking diners to bring in non-perishable food donations through September 19th for the Little Kitchen Food Shelf at the Northeast Community Lutheran Church. You'll even get a free dessert as your reward! So stop in today, or any day this week and enjoy some of the freshest, tastiest Thai food in the Twin Cities and do a little good while you're at it.
11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sen Yai Sen Lek, 2422 Central Avenue, Minneapolis
