WINE & DINE
TC Uncorked at Tiger Sushi 2
What could be better? Wine sampling at uptown's new Tiger Sushi 2, combined with light hors d'ouevres and a social hour on the patio overlooking the Midtown Greenway. That's about perfect, but if you choose to pedal yourself over to the event, you'll also receive bonus "biker bucks," which are good toward your entree on a future visit to Tiger Sushi 2. Twin Cities Uncorked is a member organization (memberships are free) dedicated to demystifying the wine world. Learn a little something while you enjoy tasting and checking out the scenery, if you know what we mean. Tickets are not available at the door, so join up and get your tickets now.
7 - 9 p.m. Tiger Sushi 2, 2841 Lyndale Av., Mpls; $28
MUSIC
Scion Radio Monthly
Yes, Scion the car company. What you may or may not know, however, is that Scion is a constant pusher of both fantastic art and killer music. In one of the more
clever and genuinely cool marketing ploys we've seen from a major corporation, Scion speaks to a hip, young generation in their own language. From the traveling contemporary art show, Scion Installation (which made a stop in Minneapolis earlier this year at the Rogue Buddha Gallery), to regular free music events featuring the most buzzed about DJs and musicians. Tonight's edition of the Scion Radio series includes Treasure Fingers (one of our faves), Roy Davis Jr., Eli Escobar, and Cosmo Baker (of The Rub), four DJs who have had their share of blogsphere hype, and for good reason. This wild, mid-week dance jam is free with rsvp, and space is limited, so get thou name on the guestlist whilst there's still time!
10 p.m. to 2 a.m., 7th Street Entry, 701 1st Avenue N., Minneapolis, Free with rsvp HERE
SPECIAL EVENT
Big Bang Book Club
The Big Bang Book Club is a monthly book club for non-scientists. On August 25, we'll get our head around the big scientific battle over black holes, quantum
physics, and the fundamental laws of the universe. Really, it will be fun, with very few punches thrown. Starting from the Leonard Susskin book, "The Black Hole War: My Battle with Stephen Hawking to Make the World Safe for Quantum Mechanics," the discussion will help us understand the basic premises and language of Black Hole arguments. We'll have an expert on hand to guide us, and a few English majors who have read "A Brief History of Time" to try to confuse us.
The Big Bang Book Club relishes folding arts and science into a heady brew, especially when accompanied by beer and munchies. Sponsored by Magers & Quinn Booksellers; the Center for Science, Technology, and Public Policy at the Humphrey Institute; Secrets of the City; and Grumpy's. Come one, come all, for a fun discussion of popular science books. Susskin's book available for sale at the event and at Magers and Quinn.
7 p.m. Grumpy's, 1111 Washington Av. S. Mpls., Free
