London trio The Noisettes rock the Varsity

MUSIC
The Noisettes

Tonight is the night for fabulous free music! Make a cameo at the Varsity Theater this evening for a special set by London trio, The Noisettes, along with local electro-wonders Dearling Physique. The Noisettes bring a soulful sass to the stage with their truly unique, pop-fueled anthems and the mischievously sultry vocals of front woman Shingai Shoniwa. If you ask us, this show is worth it alone just to see what the amazingly stylish Shoniwa is wearing. After all, who doesn't love an afro/mohawk?

7 p.m., Varsity Theater, 1308 4th Street SE, Minneapolis, 18+, Free

FILM
Video Night w/ Pete McLarnan and Brennan Vance

The Soap Factory's newest addition, The Common Room, most definitely has our attention. There isn't much on the upcoming schedule of events that we don't find Secrets-worthy, so we suggest going to the website now to start blocking out your calendar -- there are a slew of awesome events you won't want to miss! Tonight's clever endeavor is hosted by artists Pete McLarnan and Brennan Vance who will present a showcase of struggling filmmakers and video artists who have recently applied for the State Arts Board and Jerome Foundation film and video grants. Watch the work with a discerning eye and participate in an informal discussion on the way the artists chose to present themselves to the grant committees. Not only is this event appealing to filmophiles, but it could potentially be eye opening for those considering applying for an arts grant.

7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Soap Factory, 110 5th Avenue SE (NOTE: Common Room entrance is on the 5th ave side of the building, not the normal 2nd ave side), Minneapolis, Free

MUSIC
Relax

Frankie said it first, and now the Kitty Cat Klub encourages you to "relax" and get your mid-week dance on. Despite its moniker, the second installment of new dance party Relax, promises to be anything but tranquil. Resident deejays Real Talk Radio (of Anthem Heart) and The Night Stalker rock your socks with the best Italo, Nu Disco and Electro remixes around, not to mention video-tastic images from MPLS' projection guru, Time Squid, video footage by Anthem Heart and a patio photo booth by Denis Jeong Plaster. Hit us with those laser beams, boys! -Juleana Enright

10 p.m. to 2 a.m., Kitty Cat Klub, 315 14th Ave. SE, Minneapolis, 21+, Free
