A Punk Rock Reading: Author Brian Peterson discusses 'Burning Fight'

READING
Brian Peterson: Burning Fight

If you're one of those smart alecs that has at some point in your life uttered the phrase "Punk died in the 80s," author Brian Peterson is prepared to prove you wrong. The journalist and punk documentarian pops into Extreme Noise record shop tonight to discuss his new book Burning Fight: The Nineties Hardcore Revolution in Ethics, Politics, Spirit, and Sound. The book provides an insightful look into the scene that invigorated a generation and spurred on a movement of political action that's still going strong in the here and now. Drawing on recollections of influential hardcore bands of the 1990s, such as Spitboy, Los Crudos, Avail, and more -- as well as his own memories -- Peterson delves into an epic counterculture that, for the most part, escaped the national media. Pick up a copy of the book, chat up the author, and while you're there, score some hardcore tuneage.

7 p.m., Extreme Noise, 407 W. Lake Street, Minneapolis, Free
