LECTURE
Tuesday Artists' Talks: Tom Arndt
Head to the Mpls Photo Center this evening for interesting dialogue and amazing photography! Photo documentarian Tom Arndt will be on-hand to discuss his work, which has been impressively piling up since the early 1970s. Arndt's nostalgic black and white images capture the essence of Minnesota living, from the 1984 presidential campaign of Walter Mondale, to the Minnesota State Fair, to moving images of real Minnesotans on the street and in their homes. As one of the state's leading documentary photogs, Arndt's presentation at the Photo Center is a must-go for any local history and/or photography buff. Also check out the exhibit Tom Arndt's Minnesota at the MIA, on display through August 23rd.
7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Mpls Photo Center, 2400 North 2nd Street, Minneapolis, Free, RSVP to lectures@mplsphotocenter.com with number and names of attendees.
THEATER
An Evening of Bestation!
The Rockstar Storytellers take over the Bryant Lake Bowl's theater for yet another rousing, multi-faceted showcase! Tonight is actually the perfect opportunity to pop your
proverbial Rockstar "cherry," as this show is a live retrospective of "Best of" performances from the past year. You'll also enjoy a special sneak preview of four Fringe Festival productions from other local theater companies and be entered to win tickets to several Rockstar-related Fringe shows. One lucky winner will even score a 10-punch pass to see all of the Rockstar Fringe productions for free. Tonight's show will also be recorded live, so dress to impress and keep the heckling to a minimum!
7 p.m., Bryant Lake Bowl Theater, 801 W. Lake Street, Minneapolis, $12 ($10 with Fringe or Rockstar Button), Tickets online HERE.
Extra: Check out www.fringeyawards.com for "trailers" about upcoming Fringe productions, and vote for your favorite!
Cool new thing alert! The filmophiles at MNKINO invite you to join them this evening at the West Bank Social Center for the kick off of what we expect will be a very interesting new series. Inspired by Montreal's KINO movement, each month MNKINO will dream up words, objects, ideas,
etc for you to incorporate into your own short film to be screened at the next event. No need to be a pro, this fun, no-pressure filmmaking project is less "competition" and more "creative challenge." Tonight's theme is "orange," but even if you don't have anything that fits the topic in your archives there's really no reason why you shouldn't show up and mingle. Next month's challenge will be announced tonight!
8:30 p.m., West Bank Social Center, 501 Cedar Avenue S. (above the Nomad), West Bank Minneapolis, Free
