SPECIAL EVENT
Northeast Movies and Music in the Park
Lucky Northeast Minneapolis! The popular outdoor movies and music series at The Basin has been extended for a special screening of the 1967 classic, Bonnie & Clyde. Kick the night off with local indie rockers, Alameda, whose piano-driven melodies and girl/boy vocals will warm you up for this iconic flick, which screens at dusk. Unless you've been living under a rock, we're pretty sure you're familiar with the true story of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, the notorious bank robbers whose exploits whipped the media into a frenzy during the Great Depression. The film, directed by Arthur Penn, stars Warren Beatty as Clyde Barrow and Faye Dunaway as Bonnie Parker. Bring a blanket and some popcorn and enjoy the last event in this annual outdoor series!
8 p.m., The Basin, 22nd Ave. & Quincy Street NE, Minneapolis, Free
SPOKEN WORD
The Remix Open Mic w/ Tish Jones
Forget walking softly and carrying a big stick; the real power lies with the man (or woman) behind the mic. As founder of TruArtSpeaks collective, hip hop spoken
word artist Tish Jones can attest to the diverse set of artists. Every Tuesday night join Jones, TruArtSpeaks, and the newly re-opened Capri Theater as they present an evening where locals are welcome to step up and give the audience a taste of the word revolution. Recent recipient of the 2009 VERVE Grant for MN Spokenword Artists, Jones is no stranger to hosting slams in the metro area and knows how to get the crowd pumped the right way. Tonight is a beat-boxin' must-see!
7-9 p.m., Capri Theater, 2027 W. Broadway N., Minneapolis, Free
We don't like to get too complicated with Happy Hours. Saji Ya makes it easy with happiness served seven days a week, according to regular
hours and easy-on-the-wallet prices. $3.50 for most drinks. $3.50 or $3.75 for edamame or seaweed salad appetizers. And, get this, just $5.50 for Spicy Tuna or Dynamite 4-piece Maki Sushi! There's plenty more to choose from, and the easy hospitality will envelope you and your friends. No need to rush; if Happy Hour ends, the regular menu prices are reasonable too, either on the regular dinner menu or the teppanyaki menu served upstairs.
Monday - Thursday 5 - 7 p.m.; Friday - Saturday 9 - 11 p.m.; Sunday 4 - 6 p.m., Saji Ya, 695 Grand Ave., St. Paul
It's no secret that the Minneapolis College of Art and Design churns out some of the Twin Cities' most promising young artists, and tonight's
exhibition proves it once again. Certified features work by Matt Van Ekeren, Molly Hein, Christina Rimstad and Catherine Grothe, all recent graduates of the Certificate in Graphic Design Program. Chat up the artists and check out the unique styles that these up and comers have both honed and expanded on during their time at MCAD. Make it a date night with a post-exhibit cocktail and platter of cranberry cream cheese puffs at Azia, just a hop, skip and a jump from the school.
6 p.m. to 8 p.m., MCAD Corridor Gallery, Floor 2, 2501 Stevens Avenue, Minneapolis, Free
