The Revolution Reel Series showcases local filmmakers at Intermedia Arts

FILM
Revolution Reel Series: Short Film Showcase

The recently defunct independent movie rental shop, Cinema Revolution, left many of us junkies wondering what direction local cinema was heading. But filmophiles rejoice! The new chapter in Twin Cities film culture, the Cinema Revolution Society, is dedicated to exposing local audiences to world cinema, film theory and movie history -- and their new weekly series, Revolution Reel, promises to do just that. Curated by CR founder John Koch, Revolution Reel features five evenings of film that exhibit the dramatic, bizarre and ecstatic wonderment our community has to offer. Tonight's event is the second in the series and showcases an eclectic collection of shorts. Be sure to stick around after the screening for a q&a session with the filmmakers. -Juleana Enright

7:30 p.m., every Tuesday through July 7th, Intermedia Arts Theater, 2822 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis, $5

Extra: The 48 Hour Film Project happened this past weekend, with over 90 local teams producing short films within a 48 hour time limit! See the films screened in all their glory (some terrible, some amazing) at the Riverview Theater throughout the week! Visit www.48hourfilm.com for details!

SPECIAL EVENT
Vino & Valenti

Think the Opera is just for old people? Think again! The Minnesota Opera has been sizzlin' this season with a number of stylish productions that definitely appeal to any artistic appreciateur. And to prove their point, they've developed Tempo, a hip members-only club for young Opera lover's ages 21-39. Tempo members score mega-cheap tix to opening night operas, special invites to post-show parties and exclusive soirees such as tonight's Vino and Valenti event, which, lucky for you, is open to potential members as well. Join dashingly handsome tenor James Valenti, star of the Minnesota Opera's upcoming production of La boheme, for an intimate evening of conversation and cocktails at the cozy Loring Green East Fireside Room. James will talk about his glamorous life as a rising opera star, his world travels, performances and more. While you're there, enter to win Opera tickets, a Tempo membership and other awesome prizes. And dress to impress -- we consider anything opera-related the perfect excuse to put on something fancy!

To attend this event you must RSVP to jnieman@mnopera.org or by calling 612-342-9550. Space is limited.

7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Loring Green East, Fireside Room, 1201 Yale Place, Minneapolis, $5 non-members, free for Tempo members

MUSIC
Terramara

If you like your music a tad edgy, with a Peter Gabriel meets Billy Joel feel and catchy as they come, we have one word for you: Terramara. The MPLS veteran musicians return to Nye's piano bar tonight for a no cover, one-night-only concert of jazz-inspired rock tunes. Founded by the talented singer/songwriter, Rob Meany in 1998, Terramara has produced three albums, recorded in the notorious, Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls (where artists P.J. Harvey, Nirvana, Andrew Bird, Babes in Toyland have also recorded)  and won the WB MN's "Strictly Original" New Music Competition in 2005 for the memorable hit, "Running Down the Avenue." With their catchy riffs, easy listening melodies and sweet harmonies, Terramara's sound is foot-tapping, heartfelt powerpop you don't wanna miss. -Juleana Enright

9:30 p.m., Nye's Polonaise Room, 112 East Hennepin Ave., NE., Minneapolis, Free
