The Germs
Seminal punk band, The Germs, raged through the late seventies with wild abandon; defining an era for many, and getting themselves banned from every venue in the greater Los Angeles area along the way. A recent resurgence of popularity came with the release of the 2005 documentary, What We Do Is Secret, a film that captures the grit, sweat, desperation and determination of the early punk scene through the life and times of the band and their fantastically unruly lead singer, Darby Crash. Though Crash committed suicide via heroin overdose in 1980, his tumultuous legacy has inspired many a young and snarling anti-socialite and has established The Germs as one of the most iconic punk bands of all time. The group is now on tour with actor/musician Shane West, who was apparently so convincing in the role of Darby Crash in the documentary that the remaining Germs actually invited him to join the band. So, put on your best sneer and swagger and head to the T-Rock for some good old fashioned punk rock n' roll. The Krum Bums and Virgin Whores open.
8 p.m., Triple Rock Social Club, 629 Cedar Avenue, West Bank Minneapolis, $15
Just as our 'Gallery Grooves' events have proven for years, art and wine go together, and there is no time like the present to cast off pretentions and start sampling and
experimenting. Twin Cities UnCorked has this down to a science, with a regular calendar of events to de-mystify the world of wine. In this case, a mere $28 ticket includes wine tasting, a hotel art tour, and a small sample of Chambers' notable noshes, paired with the evening's wine selections. We're guessing the featured wines will be geared to grilling and relaxing outdoors. TC Uncorked is a non-profit, member organization with no membership fee. How's that? Just sign up to purchase your event tickets, and you'll reap the advantage of advance notices for future events plus other special exclusive offers.
6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. wine tasting (6 - 8 p.m. art tours); Chambers, 901 Hennepin Av., Mpls; $28 Purchase tickets.
