Minnesota's Greatest Generation Project Comes Full Circle

MUSEUMS
Minnesota's Greatest Generation Exhibit

This is an epic exhibit. We don't use the word epic all that often, but when we do, we mean it. Over the weekend, The Minnesota Historical Society opened this 8000 square foot exhibit dedicated to the history of a generation -- an ambitious endeavor three years in the making. The Minnesota's Greatest Generation project focuses on the lives of those who grew up during the Depression and through the war as young adults; an industrious and defining generation whose personal stories have inspired and fueled this multi-faceted project from its inception. The newly opened exhibit offers a three-part exploration, from the Depression, to the War, and continuing through the Boom. Exhibit highlights include a re-created 1930's movie theater and a classic soda fountain where visitors can play a jukebox that recounts stories of teenagers whose lives were impacted by the events of December 7, 1941 (the bombing of Pearl Harbor). Visitors can participate in interactive components to the exhibit, such as a "bullet-packing" assembly line; a 1950s television showroom where kids can test TV tubes; a classic car; a 1960s airport setting; a D-Day multimedia presentation; stories, artifact, and so much more that we can't possibly mention even a summary here. An intriguing exhibit for adults of all ages, and a fun and educational experience for children, the Minnesota's Greatest Generation exhibit is definitely one for the (history) books.
