In & Out of Fashion: The Films of William Klein
William Klein set out to re-invent every art medium he concentrated on, expanding the way we look at photography, film and paintings. His raw snapshots as a fashion photographer for 1950s Vogue were deemed "scandalous and vulgar" for their realistic depiction of the NYC streets. Decades later, during the 90s, Klein's work was finally lauded and he was awarded the Agfa-Bayer/Hugo Erfurt prize. From there, Klein began work on In & Out of Fashion, a mixed media project that included photographs, drawings and film -- a project which toured in galleries worldwide until 1999. Tonight, the Walker celebrates the multifaceted life and career of this influential artist in the documentary retrospective, In & Out of Fashion, one in a series of films directed by William Klein. The series includes an intimate look at famed boxer Muhammad Ali and pop rocker Little Richard, as well as the film that exposed the "vapid nature of the fashion model, Who Are You, Polly Maggo? Don't miss the chance to absorb the work of the legendary man behind the camera! -Juleana Enright

Lately, it seems local dance companies know exactly how to peek our interest - pairing hip, contemporary beats with a hybrid of dance styles.
Anyone at the The Lab's recent dance production, which incorporated LCD Sound System in one if its main acts, was a good example: modern dance + modern music = modern love. The third season performance of Crash Dance Productions promises to keep to this trend with their production, What A Day. With original choreography from company members, as well as pieces by Stacy Boeddeker, the tappers of Rythmic Circus, and singer/songwriter Breanne Duren, What a Day moves to the music of contemporary artists Ingrid Michaelson, Manchester Orchestra, The Faint, Adele, and more. Tickets are available at the box office, but we suggest to order in advance as Crash Dance Productions have sold out nearly every show in the past. -Juleana Enright

Get a little taste of London tonight at the Uptown. And no, we don't mean tea and krumpets (insert laugh here). British babe Tara Rocks has set the West London
club scene ablaze with her monthly dance night "West Rocks" for the past couple of years, and we can definitely see why. Each event is a carefully curated showcase of bands and DJs; a testament to Tara's connections to the business side of the music scene as an a&r rep. A dance floor-packing DJ herself, Tara has brought this famous party on an overseas road trip -- a tour that kicks off right here in Minneapolis Saturday night. Rock out to a killer lineup of West Rocks-approved local bands, including Guystorm, Idle Hands, Bouncer Fighter, Communist Daughter, Chelsea Boys, Camel of the Sea, and Absent Arch, with DJ sets from A-Ray, Guystorm, Solid Gold, Ryan PN and, of course, Tara herself.
Saturday, 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., Uptown Bar, 3018 Hennepin Avenue S., Uptown Minneapolis, $5 with RSVP to westrocksguestlist@gmail.com, at door additional.
This is one concept we can definitely get behind: free food. And not just any free food, GOOD free food. If you missed Gastro Non Grata's special
event over Art-A-Whirl weekend at the Modern Cafe (think pig roast), this Sunday night is your chance to make up for lost...eating. Head to the Triple Rock Social Club for an evening of delectable treats and rockin' tunes. Sample ice cold beer from Rush River Brewing, chow down on tasty mushroom pate and Vietnamese grilled pork salad from Spoonriver, and get your sugar rush from sweets a la Rogue Chocolatier. Once you've had your fill, jump around to the sonic stylings of local bands Birthday Suits, His Mischief, Evening Rig, and Dreamland Faces. You most likely don't have to work tomorrow, so we say, indulge yourself!
Sunday, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Triple Rock Social Club, 629 Cedar Avenue S., Minneapolis, $3 or a food donation at the door.
