SPECIAL EVENT
Punk Poetry Night
Nothing says "Spring" like an angsty poetry reading in an art gallery, are we right? We're definitely in the mood to write some our own today, despite the delightful (and seemingly official) change in seasons. Head down to Gallery 13 for an evening of poems, music, and art hosted by artist Mary Jane Mansfield and Grant Hart (yes, that Grant Hart, i.e. Hüsker Dü) -- so you know it's the real deal. Inspired by the writings of Charles Plymell, tonight's event will feature readings from Grant Hart, Laura Brandenburg, Emily Carter, Paul Dickinson, Michelle Leon, Timothy G. Piotrowski, and Larry Sahagian. Also on the plate is an artist talk on the current exhibit with Alexandros Lindsay and Mary Jane Mansfield, as well as live music from Patches & Gretchen.
7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Gallery 13, 811 LaSalle Avenue, Downtown Minneapolis, Free

Buy a "blind box" (meaning you don't know what design you're getting) and take your chances, or buy a case of 30 and trade with other people to complete your set. Enjoy refreshments, prizes, limited edition Burlesque Design prints for sale, plus 10% off your entire purchase all evening! All book titles are also 25% off.
6 p.m. to 8 p.m., ROBOTlove, 2648 Lyndale Ave. S., Uptown Minneapolis, Free

READING
Talk of the Stacks: Arthur Phillips
Not many writers can boast that their first novel was named a "Notable Book of the Year" by The New York Times and translated into over twelve languages, but Minneapolis-born author, Arthur Phillips, is not your typical run-of-the-mill writer. Heralded as "one of the best writers in America" by the Washington Post, Phillips explores his newest volume of work, The Song Is You, as part of the Secrets of the City and Magers and Quinn sponsored series, Talk of the Stacks. Phillip's fourth novel follows the relationship between a music enthusiast and a rising young Irish singer and examines the how the power of music shapes our sense of self. Accompanied by pianist, Chan Poling of the New Standards and hosted by Steve Seel of 89.3 The Current, tonight's reading is an event both literature and music lovers can revel in. -Juleana Enright
