LECTURE
Martin Espada: Public Interview

You might be predisposed to think that holding the title of poet/lawyer is a contradiction. After all, one deals with logic and reason and the other focuses on the emotional and intangible. But Brooklyn-born, Latin descendant Martin Espada has found a link between the two. A former tenant lawyer in Boston, Espada is now a creative writing professor in the Department of English at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Join Hamline University for "The Advocate: Confessions of a Poet-Lawyer," a two-day event devoted to the award-winning poet, attorney and professor, Martin Espada, exploring the connections between poetry and justice. Known as "the Latino poet of his generation," Espada has published sixteen books, won an American Book Award, been a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, and nominated for numerous other literary achievements. Don't miss an opportunity to educate yourself on the engaging work of this influential poet. -Juleana Enright
