FILM
OminFest
Haven't been to the Omni Theater since that class field trip in 1987? Neither have we. Today, or any day through April 12th for that matter, you can catch up on your Omni-viewing in this eye-poppin' marathon of epic proportions. Omnifest features five stunning films, shown twice per day, including Grand Canyon, Super Speedway, Lewis and Clark, Wild California, and Great Lakes. Each film is a visually overwhelming cinematic masterpiece, made even more intense by the vivid, domed Imax projection system that the Omni Theater is famous for. Test your retinas and see all five in a row, or simply choose a couple favorites for an afternoon or evening of visual bliss. Runs daily through April 12th.
Hourly from Noon to 9 p.m., Science Museum, 120 W. Kellogg Blvd, St. Paul, Non-members: Omni Theater + exhibits $16 adult, $13 child; Omni Theater only $7.50 adults, $6.50 children (per film); Members Free.
MUSIC
Improvisational Music Series
Head to northside gallery Homewood Studios for a festive evening of art, camaraderie and improvisational music with local jazz man Milo Fine and his tuneful cohorts. This
long-running jam session features Fine on electronic piano, B flat clarinet, and alto clarinet; Scott Newell (also an exhibiting artist) on tenor sax and vocals; Davu Seru on the drums, and Jason S. Shapiro rockin' the synth. Fresh and unexpected, tonight's free-form soundscape is bound to entertain, and if anything, will at least make for an interesting Monday eve at an off-beat venue.
7 p.m., Homewood Studios, 2400 Plymouth Avenue S., Minneapolis, $5
Fitting right in with recession-proof businesses like Spam and McDonalds, bars with dirt cheap happy hours tend to have major staying power.
Such is the case with famous Minneapolis dive, Liquor Lyle's. With a happy hour that even a hobo could love, Lyle's pulls out all the stops for those looking to get liquored up, economic crisis be damned. Enjoy 2-for-1 specials on everything in the bar (even top shelf) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and again from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. Monday's make it even more alluring, with $1.25 domestic taps and $1-$3 food items. Add in Lyle's blue plate special, a full meal for just $3.99 which changes daily, and you've got yourself a party.
Extra: Free wings everyday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. as well!
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. & 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., 7 days a week, Liquor Lyle's, 2021 Hennepin Avenue S., Minneapolis, Free
