Living Arrangements: Local Werewolf Film Debuts at The Uptown

FILM
Living Arrangements

Our fave on-screen appearances by werewolves include Teen Wolf (one and two) and any of the episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer when Willow's boyfriend turns into a werewolf. Locally produced flick, Living Arrangements, brings a little comedic competition to these long-standing classics. When a young vegan couple moves into a new house only to discover a werewolf living in their attic, they must appease the beast with the one thing they deplore: meat. Based off the short, There's a Werewolf In My Attic! which screened at the 2008 Slamdance Film Festival and received an Honorable Mention award at the 2009 Atlanta HorrorFest, Living Arrangements is a wonderfully cheesy low-budg horror-comedy that will surely make you re-think your carnivorous habits. This evening's screening at the Uptown Theater is a one-night-only engagement and features a free raffle in which you'll be entered to win fabulous, werewolf related prizes. Directed by Sam Thompson and starring Joe Noreen, Alexandra Glad, and Mark Borchardt.

7 p.m., Uptown Theater, 2906 Hennepin Avenue, Uptown Minneapolis

SPECIAL EVENT
AIGA Design Show

Did you know that Minneapolis is one of the top cities for graphic design in the country? Not only are some of the biggest and brightest agencies headquartered here, but there are so many small firms doing amazing things it's almost impossible to keep track. AIGA (American Institute for Graphic Arts) boasts 55,000 members nation-wide -- with Minnesota, not surprisingly, being one of its largest chapters. The annual Design Show is a competition that is judged by leading design professionals from across the country, evaluating the entries' "ability to solve the problem of communicating both the design's effectiveness and aesthetic appeal." Tonight's swanky reception at the Weisman will reveal this year's prestigious winners and will have you rubbing elbows with the cities' artistic elite. A great opportunity to introduce yourself to a booming creative market that you may not be familiar with -- and see some amazing design work while you're at it.

6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Weisman Art Museum, 333 East River Road, Minneapolis, $50 non-members, $30 AIGA Members, $25 non-member students, $15 member students

Extra: Did ya know that admission to The Weisman is always free? Excluding special events (such as tonight) you can enjoy a recession-proof art excursion any day of the week at this beautiful local museum!

DANCE
Limón Dance Company

Winners of the 2008 National Medal of Arts, the Limón Dance Company presents an interpretative dance performance featuring three dance dramas representing the extreme range of the human spirit. This terpsichorean journey begins with The Traitor, choregraphed by Mexican-born Jose Limón in the '50s. It's a modernist version of the tragic betrayal of a tormented Judas Iscariot. The second, Into My Heart's House, was commissioned to celebrate Limón's 100th birthday and his love affair with Bach's music. Finally, Missa Brevis illustrates a communal hymn against war in an expressive modern dance drawing inspiration from post-war Poland, folk-dance patterns, and Christian iconography. The Oratorio Society of Minnesota performs this music for organ and choir, and the Company is joined by students from the U of M's Dance Department. Students should check out the U's Arts Pass for great prices!

7:30 p.m., Northrop Building, 84 Church St. SE, Minneapolis, $31-55

Extra: Join the performers for a Performance Preview in Studio 4 in the basement of Northrop, 6:45 - 7:15 pm, where Northrop Director Ben Johnson will interview Limón Dance Company Artistic Director Carla Maxwell.
