The Duke Spirit
Up and coming Brit rockers, The Duke Spirit, make a cameo at the Triple Rock Social Club tonight on the road to bigger and better things. One of only a couple stops on this mini-sweep of the U.S., The Duke Spirit will rock MPLS then are immediately off to tape performances on Last Call with Carson Daly AND Jimmy Kimmel Live -- followed by a highly anticipated show at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas. Fronted by the sexy Liela Moss, whose domineering vocals set the tone for the band's catchy, cleverly arranged melodies, The Duke Spirit is definitely on the verge of a major blow up. And of course, Monday is always a good day for a crazy rock show.
8 p.m., Triple Rock, 629 Cedar Avenue, West Bank Minneapolis, $10 adv, $12 door
These days, with all the guns, robots, laser beams, and other such new-fangled on-screen killing tools, strangling has become a murder method of the past. Thanks to
the filmies over at Take Up Productions, however, you'll be transported back to the days of yore when a good old-fashioned strangling always had a place in the plot line. Tonight's film noir classic, The Phantom Lady (1944), finds Scott Henderson (Alan Curtis) fighting to maintain his innocence after his wife is found strangled with one of his neck ties. The only way to prove his alibi is to find the nameless woman whose "company" he was enjoying at the time of his wife's death. Still not sold? Apparently there is a really good sex scene too.
7:30 p.m., Heights Theater, 3951 Central Avenue NE, Minneapolis, $8
