ART
Target Free Thursdays
The Walker will be hoppin' with a flurry of art, film and music during this week's edition of Target Free Thursdays. Peruse the colorful, pop culture-focused portraits of painter Elizabeth Peyton in the new Live Forever exhibit on your own, or opt for a group experience with the Sound Bites Gallery Tour at either 6:30 or 7 p.m. in the Bazinet Garden Lobby. Hit the McGuire Theater at 6:30 p.m. for 13 Most Beautiful Young Artists, a series of films crafted by the Walker Teen Arts Council with corresponding musical scores by young musicians, who will also play live in the theater. The performance is a nod to this weekend's impending 13 Most Beautiful...Songs for Andy Warhol's "Screen Tests" event featuring Dean and Britta. Finally, at 8:30 p.m. in the Cinema, you'll be privy to music films by Derek Jarman featuring the likes of Marianne Faithful and The Smiths. A pretty rockin' Thursday at the Walker if you ask us!
5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Walker Art Center, 1750 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, Free
EXTRA: Looking for a more in-depth examination of the Peyton exhibit? Head to the Minneapolis Central Library tonight at 7 p.m. for a lecture led by WAC visual arts curator Elizabeth Carpenter in which she'll discuss Elizabeth Peyton's artistic processes, influences, and her relevance.
The Gremlin Theater invites you to a double whammy of dramatic delights that will appeal to your historical side. The first play, Testimony: So Runs The World Away, is a
theatrical reproduction of the Lincoln assassination. This famous history lesson is brought to life through a vibrant cast of characters and thoughtful storytelling. The second play, The Game's Afoot: An Evening With Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson, transports you to foggy London, where mystery and intrigue are always short on the heels of these two legendary fictional characters. This limited-run double header is only on stage through Sunday, so dust off your top hat and monocle and get thee to the Gremlin Theater!
7:30 p.m. through Saturday, Sunday 2 p.m., Gremlin Theatre, 2400 University Avenue W., St. Paul, $13-$20 ($2 off with Fringe Button)
