From Russia with Love: Sleeping Beauty's Storybook Ballet

Russian National Ballet Theater's Sleeping Beauty

Almost every little girl dreams of glittering tutus, pink satin pointe shoes, and pristine prima ballerinas in sparkling tiaras. The Russian National Ballet Theater fully indulges those nostalgic fantasies with Marius Petipa's magical and mesmerizing version of The Sleeping Beauty. The company dazzles with a 50-member troupe brimming with exquisitely adorned kings, queens, princes, princesses, villains and fairies. A sublime adventure of storybook proportions and a much-needed respite from the bleak and mundane winter. Runs through Saturday.

Chinese New Year Celebration

Celebrate the year of the Ox at this festive function that's fun for the entire family! Midtown Global Market pulls out all the stops to entertain and educate with art, music, dance and food. Beginning at 4 p.m., members from the Chinese Senior Citizens Society and the Chinese Heritage Foundation will be available to tell your fortune, and will be distributing red envelopes that help usher in good luck for the New Year. At 7 p.m. a traditional lion dance will encompass the marketplace with flowing colors and vibrant energy. Other activities include cooking demos, live entertainment, arts and crafts, and more.

MUSIC
Bomp! The Prequel

The Bedlam throws caution to the wind with this new monthly dance party featuring a rotating cast of DJs of the most eclectic/electric variety. Hosted by Wes Winship of Burlesque of North America fame and Shannon Blowtorch of, well, Shannon Blowtorch fame, this danceworthy shindig will appeal to hip kids of all ages, social circles, and pop-lockin' skill levels. Tonight's inaugural dance-off will feature the future-electro pop burners of The Moongoons, as well as the crunkosity of Get Cryphy DJs Jimmy 2 Times and Plain Ole Bill, playing hip hop, funk and more. A cheap three buck cover and happy hour deals on food and drinks from 10 to Midnight seal the deal. Wear your dance pants!

Changing Identities Preview Party

Be the first to lay eyes on the Weisman's latest exhibit Changing Identities: Recent Works by Women Artists from Vietnam, previewing tonight! This collection of mixed media, photography, drawing, painting and video work by ten talented artists is part of the first U.S. touring exhibition to represent the work of Vietnamese women. It celebrates creative expression, breaks down stereotypes, and challenges cultural boundaries to expand -- all things we can definitely get behind! Not to mention, The Weisman always throws a hot opening party, and tonight is no exception. Rub elbows with the artists and curators, enjoy complimentary cocktails and Vietnamese hors d'oeuvres, and sashay about to the suave grooves of one DJ Etones. Exhibit runs through May 24th.

BENEFIT EVENT
Peepshow

Ooh-la-la! Leave it up to the saucy set over at Rosalux Gallery to turn this annual benefit event into a seductive spectacle! Tonight's peepshow-themed soiree includes provocative festivities such as an art raffle of work that "exposes" the artists, an interactive bathroom, racy films, and a grab bag called "the Glory Hole." Enjoy naughty cocktails and sinful treats while making eyes at artists and patrons alike. Sexy disco kings, Attitude City, helm the turntables all night long, rounding out the red-hot ambiance. Dress to flirt and loosen those purse strings; Rosalux definitely deserves your support!
