The Fringe Fest Gears Up for 2009

BENEFIT EVENT

Fringe for Fall

We heart the Fringe Fest. We also heart the Bedlam Theater. So, it's no surprise that tonight's event is at the top of our list! This lively party benefiting the 2009 Festival will feature Fringe faves Joseph Schrimshaw and Kevin Kling on entertainment duty, a silent auction, food, drinks, and merriment. Mingle with the thespianic set and cough up some of your hard-earned dough to make next year's Fringe Fest even better than the last -- which will definitely be hard to beat! Silent auction items include a sailing excursion, wine dinners, ballet tickets, gift certificates, original art, gift baskets, and more.

6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Bedlam Theater, 1501 South 6th Street, West Bank Minneapolis, $25

ART

Gallery Grooves

Venture to The Capstone Gallery tonight for our latest edition of Gallery Grooves! Secrets of the City (formerly The Rake and MNSpeak) and KBEM Jazz88fm team up for this festive art, jazz, and wine party, held at a different gallery each month. This evening lay eyes on the lush paintings of Gregg Rochester, work that we'll describe as imaginative Midwestern landscape with a touch of woodland magic. It's clear that this South Dakota-born artist sees real life from a rather whimsical point of view. Live accordian music and wine round out the sensory experience.

7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Capstone Gallery at Frame-Ups, 4325 Nicollet Ave., Minneapolis, Free

Third Thursdays at the MIA: New Delhi Nights

If you haven't made it over to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts in awhile, tonight is the perfect opportunity! Not only is admission free each third Thursday of the month, but their corresponding theme parties add even more flavor and pizazz. Tonight's theme is "New Delhi Nights" which goes hand-in-hand with their latest exhibit, India: Public Places, Private Spaces. Take in the exhibit (a curator-led tour happens at 6 p.m.), listen to the beautiful sounds of Indian sitar and tabla with Mark Ilaug and Richard Davenport, watch Bollywood videos, and listen in on a discussion with Debra Hegstrom about India.

6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Minneapolis Institute of Arts, 2400 3rd Avenue S., Minneapolis, Free
