Sorry I haven't been posting very often lately - I've been tied up with my day job as executive director of the Twin Cities Media Alliance. (The non-profit that publishes the Twin Cities Daily Planet.)
Lately, that has meant a lot of hours working on our first-ever Minnesota Ethnic and Community Media Awards, and more importantly (from a gastronomic point of view), our first-ever Minnesota Ethnic and Community Media Awards Party, which we are holding this Friday, December 5 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the party room annex of the Black Forest at 26th and Nicollet.
We still have a few tickets left, and you are welcome to join us. It's a chance to meet and network with local grassroots journalists and other local media folk, and sample appetizers from around the world. There will be a brief program at 7 p.m. honoring the winners of the awards, which are sponsored by TCMA and New America Media.
Since the awards honor the best of the ethnic and community press, it made sense to have the party on Eat Street, and to feature a sampling of appetizers from Eat Street's ethnic restaurants. The menu isn't finalized yet, but we have lots of countries to choose from - China, Vietnam, Mexico, Germany, Malaysia and Somalia, and maybe Tibet, Japan and Laos as well. We'll also have wine and beer available for a small additional donation.
The suggested minimum donation for the event is $15. To purchase tickets, please go to www.tcdailyplanet.net/Awards08, or click here to go directly to our secure payment site. You can also send a check to payable to TCMA, to the Twin Cities Media Alliance, 2600 E. Franklin #2, Minneapolis, MN 55406. But if you plan to pay by check, please call our operations manager, Emily Pearson Ryan at 612-436-9188, or send an email to Emily@tcdailyplanet.net today and let her know you are coming. And be sure to include your contact information so she can contact you in case the event sells out.
