Wanna try some Thai?
Driving down Central Ave. in Northeast Minneapolis recently, I spotted a new Thai restaurant that I'd like to check out: Senyai-Senlek, at 2422 Central Ave. N.E. The menu says they specialize in Thai street food - especially sticky rice and noodle dishes, but this is not your old-fashioned ethnic eatery - they have a wine bar, and bill themselves as, "Perfect for a relaxing dinner out in the City's funky, arts-intensive neighborhood."
It's the first Thai restaurant I have seen that makes this claim: "We believe in sustainable practices and make every effort to consider the social and environmental impact of our business decisions." Their wine and beer list includes some local brews, and they even identify which of their bottles are sustainable/organic.
I'm planning to go tomorrow night (Tuesday) to check it out, and you are welcome to join me. Everybody pays for their own, but prices seem pretty reasonable - all the rice and noodle dishes are under $12, and many are under $10. I don't know how many people we can squeeze around a table, so it might be a good idea to send me an email (iggers@rakemag.com), and maybe a phone number by noon tomorrow, so I can try to reserve a table. Otherwise, you can just show up and take your chances. Unless they read this blog post, the owners won't know we're coming, but if they do find out, that's okay, too - I'm not out to review, just explore.
