Beyond the Stick Sticks

Photographer Debra Fisher Goldstein has made a habit of having fun behind the lens at our state fair. Goldstein's whimsical visual commentary captured the essence of my debut as a MN State Fairgrounds visitor. I love her droll eye for the juxtaposition of fair contrasts: Oven-fresh nuns holding ProntoPups! Custard's Last Stand and Wild Bill's Curly Fries! The landscape of bovine hindquarters!

Her playful take was the perfect guide through the pleasures of the Minnesota State Fair. Thanks for sharing her mischievous schtick stick secrets with us.

Debra's fair photos capture special moments and memories of one of Minnesota's grand traditions. I love her humor, her flair and her framing of photos which entertain as well as illustrate Minnesota life.

Debra combines the perfect comment or caption to each unique photo perspective. She always makes me smile and usually makes me giggle out loud. I couldn't get to the Fair this year, but Debra's Beyond the Stick helped me feel like I was there... and without the transfat and weight gain.

I have checked the Beyond the Stick web site a number of times and it is wonderful! I've been to the MN State Fair several times and this site really captures things that the average eye might just miss. (It sure would be fun to go to the Fair with Fisher Goldstein to see all that she sees!) I hope she continues throughout the year with other posts on other subjects. Great talent that's out of the ordinary!!!

That Goldstein woman really has an eye for photo opps! I didn't "do" the fair this year because of a leg injury, so I lived it vicariously through Deb's pictures. I think my favorite is "Downward Dog" in the "Best Of" gallery. A close second is the eight-and-a-half month pregnant woman sitting on the concrete ball the same shape as her tummy! You go, Deb! Thanks for "sticking" it out for the entire fair!

What fabulous work - a refreshing perspective. I did not get to attend the Fair this year; however, I was able to get a daily dose by checking out Beyond The Stick's postings. (And, not as caloric as I missed eating my deep fried Twinkie on a stick!) Thanks for making my time away from the Fair as enjoyable as my time at the Fair!!!
